Considering Continuing in Psychology

Lately I’ve been thinking of continuing my studies in the psychology field, after my JD or LL.D, that is. Somehow, the field of psychology, or specifically, social psychology and cognitive psychology appeals to me.

While I was doing my Law Foundation in UiTM Kedah, I took (it was a programme requirement) Introduction to Social Psychology. Although I passed the subject with just a C, somehow the interests are coming back.

What did I learn then? How to lie - basically. How to detect lies as well. I never did memorize the Love Triangle and what not. That was irritating, but it’s basic.

Yesterday I went to MPH at SACC and bought myself the Oxford Revision Guides AS & A Level Psychology book. It cost me RM55.90.

It was either psychology, organic chemistry or Mathematics T. Don’t give me that look - I know I’m a Law student. I’m from the science stream and somehow, although I did terribly, I know I can bring these subjects. In fact what I’ll do is I’m planning to sit for STPM next year as a private candidate. I’ll take the usual subjects: General Paper, Mathematics T, Physics and Chemistry. Not all my friends are thrilled with any of the subjects. I guess that when you age, you gain more maturity and refuse to loose the gifts that you have.

I might have just got 2.81 for my 1st Semester, but that aint the end of it.

When You Screw Up, You Screw Up… Oikh…

I was thinking of writing what I mean liberally just now until I realised that anyone could whatever material that I may write down. When I say “anyone”, I meant my relatives in particular.

Anyway, when you screw up, you screw up. My approach would be: learn from it, move on & don’t repeat the mistake. No use crying over spilled milk right. If it hurts, it hurts - lick your wounds and move on. But there goes my hope of scoring BFR451 / French. Screwed up my Role-Play (20 marks) big time. Now I have to struggle to get as many marks as possible. Somehow Izwan’s philosophy on failing got to me. Oikh… Never let go without a fight, Aldric!!!!! Yea, sometimes my life just suck that bad…

On the bright side, if there’s any, I’m online… A consolation, in a way.

Sarawak bars foreigners with drug records

KUCHING: Foreigners convicted of drug-related offences in Sarawak will not be allowed into the state again.

State anti-narcotics head Supt Moses Agat said police had submitted to state authorities the names of 155 Indonesians who will be refused entry into Sarawak.

“These are people who have been involved in drug-related offences, whose cases have been disposed of by the courts and who have served their sentences.

“We do not want them to come back to Sarawak,” he told a press conference.

Agat said police would also recommend to the relevant authorities to blacklist entertainment outlets with rampant drug cases.

In January and February this year, police inspected and raided 77 entertainment outlets throughout the state and seized 5kg of heroin, 98.6g of syabu, 2,307 psychotropic pills, 244 erimin-5 pills and 154 ecstasy pills.

In the same period, 317 drug-related cases with 540 arrests were made, an increase from 121 cases and 199 arrests in the corresponding period last year.

Personal Comment:

It’s about time we enforce this. Maybe we could “extend” to nationals as well. Then again, if we do that we will infringe the freedom of movement clause in the FedCon.

Muslim converts in Perlis need not change father’s name

Muslim converts in Perlis need not change father’s name

KANGAR: The Perlis Fatwa Council has declared that non-Muslims converting to Islam must retain their father’s name or surname and need not have the bin or binti Abdullah.

Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said the edict or fatwa aimed to address the complaints by non-Muslims, who have stated that their right to retain the name of their father or surname when converting to Islam had been denied.

“When non-Muslims convert to Islam, their name is followed by `bin’ or ‘binti’ Abdullah. This should not be the case because they are actually being denied justice and their right besides affecting what had been upheld by Islam, that is nasab (descendants).

Citing an example, he said if someone by the name of Sami son of Raju were to convert to Islam, he should retain his name as Sami bin Raju and not Sami bin Abdullah.

“Changing to ‘bin Abdullah’ is awkward and did not happen in the history of Islam. During the time of the Prophet, those converting to Islam did not change their father’s name or surname and other matters pertaining to their descendants.

“As such, the Perlis Fatwa Council unanimously agrees with the decision not to allow them to change their father’s name or surname when converting to Islam,” he told reporters after chairing the discussion on the matter with 13 members of the Perlis Fatwa Council.

Dr Asri said changing the original name and using the ‘bin’ or ‘binti’ Abdullah upon converting to Islam was merely a tradition and not compelled by Islam.

He said the fatwa, enforced in Perlis, would be brought up for discussion at the Islamic Religious Council and the National Fatwa Council for a decision. – Bernama

Note: As Religion in Malaysia is the under the jurisdiction of the respective State Governments, save for the Federal Territories, this Fatwa is only applicable in the State of Perlis.

I’m “trapped” in C2 105 /106 while it’s raining outside. Out of pure boredom, googled my name and was surprised by the number of returns. Hehehe… This blog’s number one listed!

Google’d:
Aldric Tinker - 758 returns
Aldric Tinker Toyad - 164 returns
Aldric Toyad - 199 returns
Aldric Rodway - 14
Aldric T Toyad - 39
Aldric Tinker W.G. Toyad - 2

Searching “Aldric” would be plainly unfair. Browsing through the results, I find that some old “projects” can still be accessed. My voting record at Congressional Sim is still available. I wonder if Salamisa is still around. Anyone who finds it tell me… A project I did while I was in Form 3.

Aurelius Augustinus, Augustine of Hippo, or Saint Augustine (November 13, 354August 28, 430) is one of the most important figures in the development of Western Christianity. In Roman Catholicism and the Anglican Communion, he is a saint and pre-eminent Doctor of the Church, and the patron of the Augustinian religious order. Many Protestants, especially Calvinists, consider him to be one of the theological fountainheads of Reformation teaching on salvation and grace. In Orthodox Churches he is considered a saint by some while others are of the opinion that he is a heretic, primarily for his statements concerning what became known as the filioque clause. Born in Africa as the eldest son of Saint Monica, he was educated in Rome and baptized in Milan. His works—including The Confessions, which is often called the first Western autobiography—are still read around the world.

How Does Betrayal Feel?

I was visiting a friends room last night when I encountered a video made last semester based on pictures I took either randomly or deliberately. I forgot all about it until last night. I’m still in the same room, but the people are gone. Kinda reminds me like the Vertical Horizon song “I’m Still Here”. Nabil and Rahman moved to Kolej Jati. Hanif & Sayyid got a room in Perindu 4, Rahim joined my coursemates at the 4th Floor. Hasri commutes from Petaling Jaya to Shah Alam. And then there’s Izwan who, although got the same room, stay’s over at Hanif & Sayyid’s room. Finally, there just me. Since the opening of the January-April 2007 Semester, I have seen roommates come and go. I don’t mind, it keeps the peace and harmony at least.

How does this connect to the title “How Does Betrayal Feel?” Honestly, I cannot give a sound and reasonable answer other than “it just is”. Taking the easy and childish way out, right? Oikh….
