Standing My Ground

From the Lecture Hall to the Internet

I won’t be kidding myself, January 2008 was the worst month of my entire academic career - in my opinion. Somehow subconsciously I’m trying to get over the fact I failed my Land Law I and had to repeat my Public Speaking II (Didn’t turn up for the exam). For certain, I’m trying to assert my position as a “has-been” in campus life/politics.

I have been active in student activities since I joined UiTM Kedah back in November 2004. Collected 12 certificates, organised several activities and played truant once and a while when I did my Pre-Law there. Repeated the same cycle for the first 3 semesters of my 6-semester undergraduate programme. If a year has 2 semesters, then my 6 semesters accounts for 3 years. I could actually graduate with at least a diploma! The highlight of my career? The second attempt to fill in my faculty’s seat on the Students’ Representative Council (MPP). I lost the election last year. Take note, I’m not sad or anything. My view is this: I’d like to enjoy the last 3 semesters of my undergrad life position-free. I’ve taken up other priorities instead. After 6 continuous semesters, I daresay I have some experiance - though I’m no expert, in student politics in UiTM. I’m content.

Reminiscing is not the reason behind this post. Even from the title: From the Lecture Hall to the Internet shows clearly of a different direction.

I find that I master something in depth when I’m sharing or going to use the subject matter. Example, I was so absorbed with politics while I was Form 1 that I read and studied the History books; from Form 1 to Form 5. This was also the case for personal finance. After my dad introduced the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki, I began to dive into books on investment, real estate, rags-to-riches and the like. Now that I’m doing Law, I’d like to share what I’ve learned and how I perceive the world…

…in a separate blog.

I did a small search on Google: typed “Law Student Blog”. Somehow the number of blogs in the United States are so vast that the American Bar Association is willing to organise the best law student blog award (or something in that line)! There was one blog from the United Kingdom.

When I repeated the search and adding the word “Malaysia”and “Malaysian”, sadly I found none. I’m very disappointed. Not even one blog dedicated to Law students.

The idea was mooted through a conversation I had.

After I publish this entry, I’ll be registering another blog. I plan to call it From the Law Student’s Desk. I plan to write on study skills for law students, networking, entrepreneurship, motivation and even comments on current issues while having Law Students as the target group.

It’s a long shot, but I’m willing to try. This should motivate me to learn more and in depth - and beating my peers while improving my results and comprehension. Ultimately, I hope law students in general would benefit from this blog, especially Malaysian Law Students.
